As with everything else, all use of radiationemitting devices should be judicious. IO360: In other facilities, are physicians hesitant to use conebeam CT because of contrast dose? Kothary: There are three big factors that I think limit the use of CBCT and I think these concerns are fast becoming obsolete. The first is the learning curve.
Now, how can we get paid? At first, we were going to continue what we had done previously. We would take an FMX and a 3D image, bill insurance for the FMX, and write off everything else. We had billed medical insurance for sleep apnea for years. Why couldn't we bill medical insurance for CBCT as well? We might as well! We're giving it away ...
A panoramic bitewing study may cut radiation dose by 40% in comparison with intraoral, bitewing Xray studies. A digital pan bitewing may create as little as three to five microsieverts vs. eight to 20 or more for intraoral bitewings, depending on cone length, machine, and sensor type.

Cone beam computed tomography may be just another chapter in the long history of medical advancements – but for us, it's one that is greatly appreciated.
used in medicine except that CBCT may expose a child to less radiation dose. In CBCT an xray device rotates around the head to create many individual pictures of the childs jaw and teeth, and these individual images are used to build a virtual threedimensional (3D) representation (main advantage of CBCT vs. other dental radiographs).
